There are several beautiful islands protecting the Bay of Loreto, all a part of the Loreto National Marine Park.
Coronado Island is the island to the North and a very popular destination for day trips. It is a 25-35 minute boat trip from the Marina. The shallow water along the shore is a beautiful turquise color and a popular site for snorkelers of all levels. The white sandy beaches are ideal for a stroll and a picnic. Shade palapas and a primitive toilet available. Several local tour companies have trips to these islands.

There are many fabulous dive destinations around the islands of Coronado, Carmen and Danzante. The Sea of Cortez has an amazing array of fish and marine mammals. If you are not a diver, snorkeling is wonderful in many places where water is less than 20 feet deep.
There is a full service PADI dive shop just down the street from El Tiburon Casitas.

From January to March, the Gray whales calve off the coast of Lopez Mateos, on the Pacific side of the Penninsula. It is a less than 2 hour drive to see the whales up close and personal and possibly even pet them from the panga. Schools of dolphins are seen year round in all waters and Sea lion colonies can be seen and heard on many rocky shores of the nearby islands. | ![]() |
